Man faces hate crime, battery charges after allegedly using pepper spray during Skokie protest
SKOKIE, Ill. - A 33-year-old man is accused of spraying pepper spray during a protest in Skokie over the weekend.
Zevulen Ebert is now facing aggravated battery and hate crime charges.
Around 5 p.m. Sunday, an event supporting Israel was taking place in the 3400 block of Touhy Avenue when about 200 protestors showed up in support of Palestine, police said.
During the protests, police say pepper spray was allegedly discharged by Ebert and a Chicago police officer and two civilians were treated for minor injuries as a result.

He was taken into custody at that time.
Ebert is scheduled to make an appearance for a pre-trial release hearing Wednesday.
