Man found dead after morning fire in NW Indiana home: officials

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - A man was found dead after a residential fire in northwest Indiana early Sunday, officials said.

The fire occurred shortly after 7 a.m. in the 200 block of South Longshore Drive.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke prevented them from entering the home. Several volunteer fire departments were called to assist.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters entered the residence and found 64-year-old Ronald Conrad deceased, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives and a representative from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
