Missing Cook County woman whose car was found abandoned phones family

CHICAGO - A missing Maywood woman whose car was found abandoned in Chicago last week has been found safe.

The family of 53-year-old Coretta Washington told Fox 32's Nate Rodgers that she called home early Wednesday morning and confirmed that she was safe.

Washington was last seen around 7 a.m. on Dec. 4 in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue in Maywood. Her 2012 Honda was discovered the same day she went missing in the middle of the street in the 2000 block of West Leland Avenue in Chicago.

According to her family, Washington has a medical condition and was in need of medication. They had been unable to reach her by phone until she called home on Tuesday.

It remains unclear why Washington disappeared, and no further details were immediately available.
