A suburban man was arrested following a fatal shooting Monday night in a Mundelein parking lot, authorities said.

Joaquin Romero, 20, of Mundelein, was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm and obstructing justice in connection with the death of Luis Moreno, 21, of Wheeling.

The shooting occurred around 7:10 p.m. in a parking lot in the 700 block of South Lake Street, police said.

Officers learned that Moreno had been taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he later died from his injuries, according to authorities.

During the investigation, police determined Romero was allegedly in the vehicle involved in the shooting. He is also accused of taking the firearm used in the incident and hiding it afterward.

Romero was arrested without incident Tuesday in Round Lake. He was expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.

The shooting remains under investigation.
