Chicago man charged with 33-year-old woman’s murder on Near West Side

A Chicago man was arrested and charged with fatally shooting a 33-year-old woman last Thursday on the city’s Near West Side.

Johnnie Matthews, 42, was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon, Chicago police said.

Matthews was arrested on Thursday and police identified him as the suspect who shot and killed the victim inside a home in the 1500 block of West Warren Boulevard. The victim died at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the primary cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

Matthews is set to appear for a detention hearing on Saturday.
