A Chicago man is accused of driving under the influence and crashing into another vehicle in Oak Lawn, resulting in one person's death.

Police were called to a crash near Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue at about 3:08 a.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle was traveling south on Southwest Highway at a high rate of speed when it struck another vehicle.

The striking vehicle came to a stop at the southwest corner of the intersection, while the other vehicle was pushed up against a vacant oil change business at 4821 W. Southwest Highway, police said.

People from both vehicles were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the struck vehicle later died from his injuries. A juvenile passenger in that vehicle was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.

After an investigation, police charged the driver of the striking vehicle, 19-year-old Peter Swenson of Chicago, with felony reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence, and driving under the influence causing death.
