Oak Lawn man charged after bomb threat shuts down South Carolina interstate: officials
SOUTH CAROLINA - An Oak Lawn man is in custody after he made a bomb threat during a traffic stop, prompting the closure of Interstate 85 in South Carolina, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 2:45 p.m. Thursday in Greenville County when South Carolina State Transport Police stopped a tractor-trailer for a missing license plate on the trailer.
The driver, identified as Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, of Oak Lawn, told officers there was an explosive device inside the commercial vehicle, according to the South Carolina Dept. of Public Safety.
All six lanes of the interstate were shut down as authorities, including the FBI, investigated the threat.
Several hours later, the scene was cleared, and the interstate reopened at 7:40 p.m., officials said.
Alhendi was arrested and charged with breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, conveying false information about a bomb threat, and operating or permitting an unregistered vehicle, according to authorities.
The tractor-trailer was reportedly registered with Globe Transportation in Illinois.
