Police respond after owner accidentally takes python to Chili's

Police encountered an unusual scene when they spotted a python slithering in the parking lot of a Chili’s restaurant on Nov. 5 in Shallotte, North Carolina. 

Officers responded to the report of a large snake near Chili’s. 

Shallotte police officers recovered the snake and posted photos on its official Facebook page to let the pet owner know they had retrieved the animal.

Christina Schiel was reunited with her python Una at a local animal shelter. 

Schiel told WECT-TV in North Carolina on Nov. 6 that the python may have been hiding in her car and possibly escaped while she was at Chili’s.

The pet owner added to the news outlet that Una had minor injuries and was a little dehydrated but is doing fine.  

WECT reported that pythons are legal pets in North Carolina.
