Portillo's Lemon Cake returns for a limited time

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Portillo's is bringing back its popular lemon cake for the second year in a row, the restaurant chained announced Monday.

Lemon cake will be available Tuesday through Sept. 10 at all Portillo's locations as well as the Portillo's mobile app.

The cake was discontinued for over a decade until last year when a Reddit user offered a $300 bounty for the recipe. The thread's popularity lead Portillo's to bring the cake back last summer.

The cake became an overnight sensation for Portillo's. Consumers bought more than 90,000 whole cakes - or 900,000 slices - last summer. It also made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Portillo's will also ship the cake to any location in the United States through their website for $49.99.
