WONDER LAKE, Ill. - A man died in a two-car crash Friday afternoon in northwest suburban Wonder Lake.
The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on Barnard Mill Road northwest of Summitt Drive, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
A Mazda 6 was traveling southeast on Barnard Mill Road when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on. The Mazda ran off the road and came to rest in a wooded area while the Chevrolet remained on the road.
The driver of the Mazda, a 49-year-old man from Wonder Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene. The McHenry County Coroner's Office has not yet released his name.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 65-year-old man from Naples, Florida, was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, officials said.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and airbags deployed in each vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
