Teen, child hospitalized after two-vehicle rollover crash in McHenry County

A two-vehicle rollover crash in McHenry County has left a teen and a child hospitalized, authorities said.

The crash happened at 4 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Route 23 and Streit Road in Harvard.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes and found two heavily damaged vehicles, including an SUV that had rolled onto its roof, according to the Harvard Fire Protection District.

All occupants of both vehicles either freed themselves or were assisted out.

The crash involved a female driver and her child in the overturned SUV. The woman declined further treatment, but her child was transported to Mercy Harvard Hospital with moderate injuries, officials said.

A teenage driver in the second vehicle, a sedan, was transported with moderate injuries to Javon Bea Hospital - Riverside in Rockford.

The road was closed in both directions south of the intersection for one hour as emergency crews worked the scene.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
