Thornton Township officials schedule emergency meeting over insurance crisis

Thornton Township has scheduled an emergency board meeting for Monday evening to address the township's lack of insurance coverage.

The meeting is set for 4 p.m. at the South Holland Public Library.

The township has been without insurance since the beginning of December due to a political dispute with Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard, leading to the closure of the township's headquarters until insurance is approved.

The trustees had previously refused to attend board meetings, claiming Henyard would not provide them with information about the township’s spending.

Henyard has faced criticism both at Thornton Township and the Village of Dolton, where she serves as mayor, as the FBI investigates allegations of misuse of taxpayer resources and excessive spending on out-of-town trips.
