Two stabbed by woman in Garfield Ridge carjacking

A woman is in custody after allegedly stabbing two people following a carjacking in Garfield Ridge on the Southwest Side early Tuesday.

Around 6:30 a.m., a 41-year-old woman was walking to her SUV in the 5100 block of South Rutherford Avenue when she noticed the suspect approaching her, according to a preliminary statement from Chicago police.

Police said the suspect pulled out a "sharp object" and stabbed the woman multiple times before taking her vehicle, a Nissan Rogue. The victim sustained stab wounds to her chest and bicep and was listed in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Minutes after fleeing the scene in the SUV, the suspect crashed into an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in the 5100 block of South Mulligan Avenue.

A 30-year-old man heard the crash and when he went to check it out, the suspect got out of the Nissan and stabbed him in the back. The man was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition, according to police.

Officers were able to take the suspect into custody at the scene, and transported her to Holy Cross Hospital with minor injuries from the crash. Her identity has not yet been released.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
