Two women struck, one fatally when SUV loses control in Chicago parking lot

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A woman was killed and another was injured when an 89-year-old man lost control of the SUV he was driving and crashed into them in a parking lot in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The women, ages 76 and 96, were getting into a vehicle about 12:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of West Addison when the man “had a problem with the accelerator” of the Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving and crashed into multiple cars before striking them, according to Chicago Police.

The 76-year-old, identified as Delores Sobczak on the Northwest Side Hermosa neighborhood, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said. An autopsy Wednesday found she died of multiple injuries from being struck and pinned by a vehicle and her death was ruled an accident.

The older woman was also taken to Masonic, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

The driver was issued a citation for negligent driving, according to police.
