Massive fire erupts at West Town pallet yard

A massive fire broke out at a pallet yard in Chicago's West Town neighborhood on Tuesday.

Just after 6:30 p.m., Chicago Fire Department officials posted on X that firefighters had responded to the blaze at the Commercial Pallet warehouse located on Hubbard Street and discovered pallets in flames.

Smoke from the fire filled the sky and could be seen from miles away.

The circumstances of how the fire started are currently unknown. However, fire officials said it appears the blaze broke out in the rear of the building where the pallets were situated, before spreading to the warehouse.

The building is a total loss, officials said.

Additionally, Metra service in and out of Chicago was affected but back on the move in the evening.

Two minor injuries were reported. They were both firefighters, but an official said they would be fine.
