Woman, 73, killed in Gary shooting
CHICAGO - Two people were shot, one fatally, outside a home in Gary, Indiana on Wednesday night.
Officers responded around 7:18 p.m. to a residence in the 1100 block of North Warren Street. Upon arrival, they found a 69-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound in the front yard.
Officers observed a trail of blood that led into the residence. Inside, they located a 73-year-old woman who had also been shot. She was taken to St. Catherine's Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The man was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital to be treated. Police said both victims were the homeowners of the residence.
Further investigation revealed the homeowners' vehicle, a blue Nissan Extera, was stolen after the shooting by a suspect wearing a coat and a ski mask. The vehicle's vanity plates were personalized as "Blue Mom."
