Wrong-way driver causes crash in Gurnee, fled on foot before arrest: police
CHICAGO - A wrong-way driver caused a chaotic crash early Thursday in Gurnee, then fled on foot to avoid arrest, authorities said.
She was eventually taken into custody after a struggle with officers.
Chaotic Crash
What we know:
The crash occurred at 5:22 a.m. near Washington Street and Frontage Road.
A 22-year-old Wisconsin woman was driving a white Land Rover southbound in the northbound lanes of Frontage Road, which also serves as an on-ramp for Route 41 from Washington Street.
As the Rover continued the wrong way, two other vehicles turned northbound onto the on-ramp.
The Rover collided head-on with a black Cadillac, leading to a second crash when a gray Toyota rear-ended the Cadillac, according to Gurnee police.
When officers arrived, they found the driver of the Rover attempting to flee the scene on foot.
She briefly returned but refused to follow officers' commands, police said. Authorities tried to detain her, but she resisted, and force was used to take her into custody.
The woman was not injured but taken to Vista Medical Center East for further evaluation.
A police officer sustained a minor injury that did not require hospitalization.
