Chicago Sky star and sensation Angel Reese has put her name alongside one of the most iconic food brands in the world.
McDonald's announced The Angel Reese Special meal on Thursday. It's scheduled to debut in McDonald's stores on Feb. 10.
This is the latest global brand to partner with Reese, joining Reebok and Reese's as the basketball icon's sponsors.
"McDonald’s has always been a big part of my life, from grabbing a McChicken® Sandwich as a kid to being named a McDonald’s All American in 2020," Reese said in a written statement. "It’s really a dream come true to be the first-ever female athlete to have my own meal and be a part of McDonald’s amazing basketball legacy. I hope the Angel Reese Special inspires young athletes everywhere to never give up on pursuing their dreams."
The Angel Reese Special is a BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese, which will feature a "new Bold BBQ Sauce," McDonald's fries and a choice of drink."
In a press release, McDonald's describes The Angel Reese Special as "saucy trifecta that blends sweet, savory and a touch of spice. The smoky Bold BBQ Sauce is a gamechanger that takes the QPC to the next level, adding a fresh twist on its classic ingredients. But this collab goes beyond flavor. We're dropping more heat soon, including content that pays tribute to McDonald's hoops history while highlighting sports legends and rising stars alike."
McDonald's and basketball go together like a burger and fries. The fast food chain has been sponsoring the McDonald's All-American Game since the late 1970s, as the chain selects high school players from all over America as All-Americans.
The first boys McDonald's All-American list debuted in 1977 and the first McDonalds All-American Game played in 1978. The first McDonald's All-American Girls Game was played in 2002.
Reese was a McDonald's All-American herself in 2020 before she began her college basketball career at Maryland. She would later transfer to LSU and win a national championship in 2023 with head coach Kim Mulkey. She was the No. 7 overall selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Sky.
As a rookie, Reese set the WNBA single-season rookie rebounding record and the WNBA all-time single-season rebounding. The latter was broken by Las Vegas Aces star A'Ja Wilson. Reese was also a 2024 WNBA All-Star selection for Team WNBA which beat Team USA. Reese is also part of the ownership group that owns the DC Power Football Club.
"There’s a real connection between McDonald’s and basketball fans," Vice President of Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture at McDonald's Jennifer Healan said in a written statement. "We want to continue to fuel their love for the game and support athletes on and off the court. We’re excited to bring our legacy with basketball culture to a new generation, and partnering with Angel is only the beginning."
