There are many health concerns are temperatures drop. The air temperature alone can cause frostbite in under 30 minutes. Orthopedic issues often arise from slips and falls on ice. In terms of shoveling snow, take breaks and do it in layers to stay safe.

The Illinois State Police says trouble areas for driver Friday morning are on ramps and bridges where icy builds up more quickly. Road conditions are especially treacherous due to gusts of blowing snow.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation is still deploying crews to clean up the streets Friday morning. A majority of city streets are clear and crews are shifting focus to neighborhood streets. Drivers are asked to use caution when out on the roads today.

Metra is going along with plans to run reduced services on most of its lines Friday. Today Metra is experiencing minor issues, for the most part trains are running. In weather like this trains run at a reduced speed. On Saturday, Metra will run on a holiday schedule which can be found, along with other important information, on their website.

Those planning to commute with CTA or Metra Friday morning will see a few delays. CTA buses are being rerouted away from Lake Shore Drive and Metra trains are running on a modified schedule. Be sure to check the CTA or Metra website before braving the cold.
