Lake effect snow and freezing drizzle impacting Chicagoland
CHICAGO - Lake effect snow and freezing drizzle are creating slick conditions across parts of Chicagoland Monday, with the wintry weather expected to continue through this evening and into tonight.
Any untreated surfaces are likely to be icy, posing hazards for drivers and pedestrians.
The lake effect band is shifting south and east, moving into northwest Indiana within the next few hours. Accumulations of one to two inches are possible as the band passes through the region.
By daybreak Tuesday, snow and freezing drizzle are expected to taper off, with overnight lows in the teens.
Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies, with highs reaching the mid 20s. Wednesday is forecast to be the coldest day of the week, with highs in the lower 20s and a return of lake-effect snow to northwest Indiana.
Thursday will be partly cloudy and chilly, with temperatures in the mid 20s. Another chance for light snow is possible on Friday, with highs again in the mid 20s.
The weekend is expected to be dry and mostly cloudy, with temperatures returning to near normal.
