Chicago weather: Rain, snow and cold usher in New Years Week
CHICAGO - There ae a couple of bumps in the weather road this week. Today won’t be too bad. Just cloudy for the most part once again. Highs will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
Tonight, rain will move in especially late with temperatures fairly steady. During New Year’s Eve, rain will continue with some wet snow likely mixing in, especially north and west portions of the Chicago area.
It will be breezy with temps in the mid to upper 30s. Colder air will move in at night and there could be a period of light snow. Not enough to impede anyone getting where he/she needs to go however. Midnight temperature will be very close to freezing.
The New Year opens with a blast of colder air and the specter of a snowstorm toward the end of this forecast period. Highs will in the 20s for the rest of the week with lows between 10-20 degrees in most areas.
The gorilla in the forecast room is the potential for significant snow late Sunday into early Monday. It is way too early to hype this with widely varying forecast model solutions. We will stay on top of this and provide timely and prudent updates this week.
December is assured of finishing warmer than normal. The normal high and low this week are around 33/21 degrees for reference.
