Chicago weather: Sub-zero wind chills tonight and into Saturday

It's been a cold Friday with afternoon temperatures only in the 20s and wind chills just barely making it into the double digits.

Tonight will be very cold with lows in the upper single digits to near 10 degrees. Wind chills will range from zero to -10 tonight into early morning Saturday.

The cold air isn't going away any time soon. Saturday will be cold and mostly sunny with highs once again in the lower 20s. There is a strong storm system expected to pass south of Chicagoland on Sunday and into Monday.

As of now, models are in good agreement that the heavy snow stays well south of Chicagoland. While there will still be some adjustments in the track by Sunday, it appears we will likely only see light snow or scattered snow showers on Sunday.

Lake effect will be possible on Monday as the winds turn to be more northeasterly. Plan for scattered snow showers with highs in the upper 20s on Monday.

Tuesday through Thursday will be mainly dry with partly cloudy to partly sunny skies. Temperatures will top out in the mid 20s on Tuesday, upper teens on Wednesday, and then we're back to the lower 20s again on Thursday.
