13 wounded in Chicago shootings Wednesday

At least 13 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday.

Most recently, two men were wounded – one of them critically – in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 11:41 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Lorel found the men, ages 21 and 31, in the hallway of an apartment building, according to Chicago Police. The 31-year-old was shot in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The younger man was shot in the right calf and was also taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said both men are documented gang members.

A man was shot and seriously wounded less than an hour earlier in the Kenwood neighborhood on the South Side. The 22-year-old was walking on the sidewalk at 10:52 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Woodlawn when someone walked up and fired shots at him, according to police. The shooter then drove away in a dark-colored car. The man was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Approximately half an hour earlier, a man was shot in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. Officers responding to reports of shots fired at 10:18 p.m. in the 4200 block of West 16th Street stopped an SUV that was seen driving away from the area, police said. A 19-year-old man inside the SUV had suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 9:45 p.m., a man was shot in the South Side Chatham neighborhood. The 20-year-old was riding in a four-door car in the 8300 block of South Ingleside about 9:45 p.m. when he heard shots and realized he’d been hit in the right buttock and right calf, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Fifteen minutes before that, a 63-year-old man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was walking on the sidewalk about 9:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Harvard when someone in a dark-colored SUV fired at him, police said. He was shot in the right shoulder and taken to Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Another man was shot at 9:19 p.m. in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 20-year-old was standing in the 7900 block of South Richmond when a male got out of a vehicle and shot him in the buttocks, according to police. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Earlier Wednesday night, two people were shot in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The two males were shot about 7:55 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Albany, police said. Their ages were not immediately known. They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

More than 17 hours earlier, a man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood. The 18-year-old was walking on the sidewalk at 2:14 a.m. in the 2000 block of East 71st Street when he was approached by several males and gunfire erupted, police said. He was shot in the left leg and later showed up at Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Just over ten minutes earlier, a man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 23-year-old was walking on the sidewalk at 2:03 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Chicago when two males walked up and opened fire, according to police. He was shot in the right arm, right leg and right side. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About 12:43 a.m., a woman was shot and critically wounded in the Southwest Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood. Officers responding about 12:43 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 3200 block of West 62nd Street found the 37-year-old woman on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the right buttock, police said. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Wednesday’s first shooting happened at 12:24 a.m. in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side. A 26-year-old man was the passenger in a vehicle driving in the 2300 block of West Arthur when two males on the sidewalk nearby opened fire, according to police. The man was shot in the head and taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in critical condition.
