Chick-fil-A Opens on a Sunday for the Best Possible Reason

Everyone in the South knows that Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, but this past Sunday some locations were open and for the very best reason.

The long-standing rule was set aside to help those affected by the recent deadly tornadoes in Texas. Free Chick-fil-A sandwiches were delivered by volunteers to first responders and victims of the storm.

"The locations were not open to the public, but team members from various restaurants in the area did volunteer to prepare and distribute free food to responders and others affected by the tornadoes—serving those in need during this tragic event," said a spokeswoman for the chain told CNBC.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has closed on Sundays since founder Truett Cathy opened his first store just outside of the city in 1946. It was to allow all employees a day of rest.
