CTU to vote on proposed contract

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The Chicago Teachers Union's bargaining team is set to vote Monday on a proposed contract that could avoid a strike. 

Last week, the CTU announced they would consider a "serious offer" from the nation's third-largest school district by taking the contract proposal to a team of negotiators.

Union officials say the "basic framework" calls for economic concessions in exchange for "enforceable protections" of education quality and job security. In a statement Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool says the "true compromise" offer would prevent midyear teacher layoffs.

CTU President Karen Lewis says a 40-member committee will convene, deliberate, and vote Monday on the deal.
