Lawsuit tossed against 1 of 2 Chicago cops in fatal shooting

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A federal judge on Thursday tossed the lawsuit against one of two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman in 2013, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gettleman dismissed the lawsuit filed by Chatman’s mother against Chicago Police Officer Lou Toth, who was present but did not actually shoot Chatman. The lawsuit remains against another officer, Kevin Fry, who actually pulled the trigger.

Chatman was running away from the officers after he allegedly stole a car. Officers said they saw Chatman turn slightly with something in his hand, which turned out to be a cell phone box.
The case drew national attention last week when a series of video recordings of the shooting were released after the city abandoned its legal fight to keep them sealed and away from the public eye.
