Weekend Green Line closure planned on West Side
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Part of the CTA Green Line will be shut down for track work this weekend on the West Side.
All rail service between the Harlem/Lake and Laramie stations will be stopped at 10 p.m. Friday, according to the CTA. During the closure, trains will not serve the Central, Austin, Ridgeland, Oak Park or Harlem/Lake stations. The closure is scheduled to last until 4 a.m. Monday.
Service between Harlem and Laramie will be replaced by shuttle buses through the weekend, the CTA said. Trains will continue to operate normally between Laramie, and the Ashland/63rd and Cottage Grove stations.
The closure is part of the Green Line West Track Renewal Project, which will replace track infrastructure between Harlem and Laramie. That part of the line has not seen renewal work since the 1980s.
A similar closure of the same stretch of the Green Line is scheduled for next weekend, according to the CTA.
