Chicago weather: Light snow near area, but more chances later this week

CHICAGO - The narrow swath of snow which deposited nearly 2 inches of snow in the Rockford area is falling apart. 

Thus, minimal impacts to travel are expected this morning with pavement generally wet and not icy.  

The rest of the day will be mainly cloudy and breezy with highs in the mid-30s.  

Tonight will be seasonably cold with lows in the 20s. 

The next system is en route for possible impacts late Thursday into Friday morning.  This would be a light snowmaker but there is considerable uncertainty now with the track of the storm system.   

Some of our models take the Clipper too far north to have much impact here whatsoever. Right now, I like the idea of light snow with a small chance of lake enhancement.  

This will not be a major winter storm.  The weekend currently favors highs in the low 30s under mostly to partly cloudy skies.  

Monday presents an opportunity for a mixed bag of precipitation as a significant warming trend begins for the final week of December.  

Christmas Eve looks dry with highs in the low 40s with even warmer temps on the way for Christmas day.
