4 shot near Wilson CTA station in Uptown

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Four people were shot Wednesday night near the Wilson CTA station in the Uptown neighborhood.

They were standing on the sidewalk about 8:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Wilson when two males got out of a vehicle and began shooting at them, Chicago Police said.

A male, whose age was unknown, was shot multiple times and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the left leg, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and a 57-year-old man as shot in both legs, police said. They were also taken to Illinois Masonic, where their conditions were stabilized.

During a Thursday press conference, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said one of the male victims was targeted in the attack, and his girlfriend was also wounded. Johnson said it was unclear whether the other two victims were also targeted.

“This just goes to show you the brazenness of some of these individuals, and the steps they’ll take to seek revenge or retaliation on someone else,” Johnson said. “But it was clearly a targeted shooting. It wasn’t random.”

Johnson noted that additional resources have been added to fight crime in the neighborhood.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
