Armed robbers targeting people walking alone on North Side

Police have issued a warning about a string of armed robberies on Chicago’s North Side.

People walking alone are being held up at gunpoint.

Police in the 19th District are warning residents that at least three suspects are using a gun to commit the robberies.

So far, their biggest clue -- in one incident -- the suspects were seen leaving in a darkly colored Jeep.

In the Roscoe Village community, there is fear as police warn the public about more than a half dozen strong-armed robberies, happening, they say, in separate incidents over two days. Timelines stretching from midnight to 5 in the evening.

Walking down the sidewalk, police say victims are approached by someone either showing a gun from their waist or putting it to their victim’s head, robbing them of personal items before making their escape.

“Makes me feel angry. It makes me feel very sad,” said Dawn Timberlake.

Timberlake and Miranda Byrd-Jameson are friends in the neighborhood and find, perhaps, most concerning is that one night, they believe they nearly fell victim after leaving a school fundraiser near their home.

“We had a person on foot to our left and a car to our right. Miranda started yelling call 911,” Timberlake said.

Police have made no arrests, leaving them both wondering if next time they'll be as lucky.

Police do not have a good description of the suspects, only able to say they were wearing dark colored hoodies.

Residents say they want neighborhood patrols increased, but say police have, so far, not responded to their requests.

Police encourage anyone seeing the suspects to call 911.
