Gas station canopy collapses onto cars in Elmwood Park
ELMWOOD PARK, Ill. - The aftermath of Monday's big snow storm continued Friday with a roof collapse in suburban Elmwood Park at a gas station, and the Chicago area could see a lot more incidents like that this weekend.
The gas station is located at 2144 N. Harlem Ave. Fortunately, the cars were empty at the time, so no one was hurt.
Officials believe heavy snow may have caused the canopy to collapse.
The gas station has shut off the gas and remains closed for now.
Looking ahead, as temperatures hit the 30s in the next few days, a major concern now is potential flooding as snow begins to melt. Officials urge residents to take precautions, including clearing downspouts, drains and sewers of debris and snow to allow drainage for melting.
