Ride-hailing driver carjacked in Lawndale

A driver for a ride-hailing service was carjacked by his passengers Tuesday in Lawndale on the West Side.

About 3 p.m., the 31-year-old was driving a black Chevy Cruze when he picked up two males for a ride in the 2900 block of West Taylor Street, Chicago police said.

During the trip, one of the males pulled out a gun and told the man to get out of the vehicle, police said. The man stepped out of the car and the duo drove off in the Chevy. No injuries were reported.

Last week, police warned food delivery drivers on the West Side of carjackings reported in late November.

So far this year, cops have responded to 1,262 carjackings, according to data maintained by the city. That’s a sharp increase from the 514 carjackings reported all of last year.
