A young woman is speaking out after a devastating texting-and-driving accident changed her life forever.

As a teenager, 20-year-old Liz Marks from Maryland said she “ignored those warnings about texting while driving, because everyone else was doing it.”

“If I didn’t have my cell phone, I felt lonely,” she said.

That all changed one day in April 2012, when Marks looked down to read a text message while she was at the wheel. The horrific accident left her blind in one eye, and impaired her sense of smell and hearing. Marks said she also can’t cry anymore because of damaged tear ducts, and her body is unable to go to sleep naturally, leaving her dependent on medication.
