Chicago weather: Weekend warmup will come with rain

After a bitter cold week, a warming trend is underway and temperatures will rise into the 40s and 50s by early next week.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with steady temperatures in the 20s. Wind chills will be in the teens.

An approaching storm system will bring rain to the area as early as late morning or midday Saturday. We could see freezing rain at the onset of the precipitation in the far west suburbs. Drivers should be aware that even if temperatures are above freezing, pavement temperatures may still be below freezing, leading to slick spots on untreated surfaces.

Rain will spread across Chicagoland on Saturday afternoon and heavy rain will be possible at times. Temperatures will top out in the upper 30s.

Sunday may begin with a few lingering showers or drizzle, but the majority of the day will be dry with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will warm into the lower 40s.

Temperatures continue to warm going into early next workweek. Monday will bring scattered rain with highs in the lower 50s. A more seasonable airmass is expected to arrive by Tuesday with temperatures returning to the 30s.
